Healthcare Equality Index leader. LGBTQ Healthcare Equality

SIUC’s Student Health Services is proud to be recognized as an LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality Leader in the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2026 Healthcare Equality Index. This prestigious award demonstrates Student Health Services’ commitment to best practices around inclusive LGBTQ+ healthcare. The HEI is the leading national benchmarking tool for LGBTQ+ inclusive policies and best practices in healthcare facilities. The Human Rights Campaign Foundation developed the HEI to meet the need for equitable, knowledgeable, sensitive, and welcoming health care, free from discrimination. The HEI recognizes our efforts to reduce health disparities, eliminate bias and insensitivity, ensure welcoming interactions, and advocate for LGBTQ+ and transgender students. We are dedicated to providing affirming, inclusive and equitable services to the LGBTQ+ student community.

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation developed the Healthcare Equality Index to meet a deep and urgent need on the part of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer Americans: the need for equitable, knowledgeable, sensitive, and welcoming health care, free from discrimination.  SIUC's Student Health Services is dedicated to providing affirming, inclusive and equitable services to the LGBTQ+ student community.

Inclusivity Taskforce 

The Student Health Services Inclusivity Taskforce works to improve clinic services, policies, and procedures to create an equitable, knowledgeable, sensitive, and inclusive healthcare environment. This team works to increase access, overcome disparities, and reduce stigma.
