SIU LGBTQ+ Student Health Services

SIU Student Health Services staff welcomes and affirms students of all gender identities and sexual orientations. Our staff are dedicated to working towards comprehensive equity for all, creating an understanding environment free from discrimination, disrespect, and other negative experiences. We prioritize LGBTQ+ students’ needs to improve access to care and address health disparities within the LGBTQ+ community. We are committed to providing you with the best care that celebrates who you are.

Student Health Services recognize that LGBTQ+ students have many of the same healthcare needs as all SIU students. We also recognize that some of your healthcare needs may be unique and require a greater understanding of LGBTQ+ healthcare. Our providers are trained to provide personalized care to people of all genders, identities, and sexualities so that every student can access equitable and affirming care.

When receiving care with Student Health Services, you can expect the following:

• An LGBTQ+ inclusive patient policy that prevents discrimination, eliminates bias and insensitivity, and targets health disparities faced by the LGBTQ+ community
• Providers who are skilled and knowledgeable in providing primary care to all students, who understand both your unique healthcare needs as well as your everyday wellness concerns
• Assessments that collect sexual orientation and gender identity-related data to improve clinical care and outcomes and prevent misgendering
• Gender-neutral restrooms (Locations marked on maps found throughout the building)
• LGBTQ+ community engagement and support
