Student Health Services is an integral part of Southern Illinois University caring for the health of our culturally diverse students. The Student Health Center is a state-of-the-art ambulatory healthcare facility that has been continuously accredited by AAAHC since 1996 and recently certified as a Patient-Centered Medical Home. We provide an integrated and holistic approach to cost-effective healthcare, serving as the student’s medical home away from home.

Student Health Services provides quality medical care for all SIU students enrolled in on-campus courses. Remember, you do not need insurance to access care at the Student Health Center. Your Student Health Fee allows you to utilize services for the entire semester. You can make your appointment on-line at the Saluki Health Portal conveniently from your residence. Please check the fees & payments to understand what services require a fee.

A message from the director.

Dr. Ted Grace and Saluki DogsOur highly dedicated staff is committed to providing our students with the highest quality of medical and mental health care possible; not only by treating physical health problems but also by preventing disease and promoting wellness. Located in the state-of-the-art Student Health Center connected to the adjacent Student Recreation Center, this “health plex” provides you with one-stop shopping located under one roof to meet all your health and wellness needs. Our 59,000-square-foot Student Health Center houses clinical, counseling, and wellness services, along with the primary ancillary services such as pharmacy, laboratory, and radiology. In addition, the student health insurance office, travel, and immunization clinic, psychiatry, sports medicine providers, and optometry all are conveniently located here.

The Student Health Services’ staff works as an integrated treatment team to provide high-quality services in an atmosphere that is both welcoming and respectful of the dignity and worth of all students. Our medical services are accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and our counseling services are accredited by both the International Association of Counseling Services (IACS) and the American Psychological Association (APA). We understand the hectic schedules of most college students and offer an array of appointment types that allow our patients to be seen in a timely manner by a health care team who specialize in treating young adults. Appointments made conveniently on-line are encouraged, but walk-in visits are accommodated as possible. Our services are affordable, convenient, confidential, and comprehensive. Students do not need to have the Student Health Insurance Plan to use our health center. Although most services are provided to enrolled students for a nominal door fee, any other incurred costs can be paid at the time of service or billed to your student account.
